About me

I am an Associate Professor in the Engineering Management, Information and Systems Department in the Lyle School of Engineering at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX. Here is my CV

My research is on decision-making under high uncertainty with a focus on robust optimization. A key topic I’m currently interested in is robust revenue management with choice models. I’m also interested in models that consider both predictive and prescriptive analytics. My research has received the George E Nicholson prize, an IBM Faculty award, several National Science Foundation awards and a Lehigh Faculty Innovation Grant. I have also received a Research Grant from the SMU Maguire Center for Ethics and Public Responsibility.

At SMU I teach or have taught Nonlinear Programming, Analytics for Decision Support (using mostly Tableau and R with a bit of Excel Solver and AMPL) and Introduction to Management Science.

My PhD students have gone on to successful careers at companies such as American Airlines, IBM Research, Ernst & Young, Amazon.com, JP Morgan and Alliance Data. I also have a long track record advising undergraduate and Master’s students on various analytics projects. My undergraduate and graduate students have also received many honors for research done under my supervision, including finalist or honorable mention spots in top national paper competitions.

I joined SMU in August 2016 after 12 years at Lehigh University, first as an Assistant Professor and then an Associate Professor. From 2012 onwards I also served as Co-Director of the Master of Science Program in Analytical Finance. In 2014-15 I was on sabbatical at the MIT Sloan School of Management. I obtained my MS and PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT in 2000 and 2004, respectively. I also hold a “diplome d’ingenieur” from the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Mines de Paris in France.

Go Mustangs.
