I am very proud to report that SMU President’s Scholar and Physics Major, Jared Burleson, has been selected to receive a Schwarzman Scholar award. The details are available in the SMU News release, which was reprinted by the Department of Physics.
Since 2018, Jared has worked with me in the LHC, and now the EIC, research environments. His early work focused on using gluon splits in large-radius particle jets to look for the decay of Higgs to gluon final states. That work led to investigations of promising jet substructure approaches, which he is now applying to the future Electron-Ion Collider program to tag (identify) the origin of jets.
In addition to his major in physics, Jared also majors in Mathematics and minors in Chinese.
This award will support Jared going to Tsingua University in Beijing, China (the premiere institution of higher education in China, and one of its many great universities) to earn a Masters in Public Policy from Schwarzman College. Of the 3600 applicants from 99 universities and 39 countries, Jared joins a select group of just 154 recipients of this award for 2021-2022. Congratulations, Jared!
