Washington Phillips and his Manzarene Dreams

Dust to Digital put together this compilation to accompany Michael Corcoran’s book about Washington Phillips.  Phillips is a bit of a mystery, playing gospel folk on an instrument of his own devise; he called it a manzarene. He recorded these songs in Dallas, in a temporary Lamar Street studio. The music box sound transports the listener, as though in a cinematic dream sequence, to a time when faith and song protects the true heart from the troubling world.
