About Us

Mustang Heroes is dedicated to serving the Dallas community.

As Southern Methodist University’s largest organization, we challenge students to broaden their outlook by providing service opportunities to both impact and learn from the greater Dallas community. By promoting servant-leadership, we strive to raise awareness, build our community, and grow ourselves and others.

Mustang Heroes was founded in 2010 by a group of incoming first-years at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. They dreamed of inspiring fellow students in service in hopes of making both SMU and Dallas a better place to grow, live and learn. By May 2012, Mustang Heroes had organized and served with three different long-term community partners: Head Start, KIPP Charter School and the Family Getaway Shelter.

During the 2017-2018 year, Mustang Heroes expanded to include 17 trips and 250+ general members, serving over 3000+ hours during both semesters. Our partnerships include renowned pioneers in the Dallas Community including the Uplift Charter Schools, Heart House and CitySquare Food Pantry.

As we begin our 10th year of service, we are proud to be working with over 15 community partners and offering a wide variety of trips that serve weekly, biweekly, and monthly. For a full list of our service trips, please visit our page on Connect.SMU.

Please join our movement towards servant-leadership and making a positive impact in our community.
