Gen. Villa
By C.C. Harris
The infamous General Villa stands before a locomotive, accompanied by two of his soldiers. Villa looks down at the camera, almost condescendingly as his soldier partially blocks the camera, as if to shield his general’s honor from the photographer. Based on the tension surround General Villa in the photograph, suggesting that a surprise assassination attempt could come at any time. Perhaps many attempts had already been made?

A Native Chief en Route
A Native Indian Chief rides through a western-styled courtyard suspended in a carriage by his entourage of servants. The chief’s son, or perhaps a higher-ranking servant follows the group on horseback. The procession appears to be displaying their chief, as if to show him off specifically to western onlookers that one can assume are nearby. The chief is obviously a wealthy, highly regarded man. Perhaps he is making a statement affirming his sovereignty amongst native Indians regardless of British establishment.
