Hi, my name is Obi Okechukwu and I’m an all around musician. After just now reading that, it may seem a bit plain to some, but there is an explanation. I am capable of being a successful educator and successful performer. I am a bass baritone and I have the capability of being a countertenor. So if necessary, I am able and willing to sing the higher parts. I can also accompany of piano and guitar as well, if needed for gigs, I can arrange and/or compose whatever your in the mood for. I can get a group together, teach them the music in short time, and make it sound great. If you need a jingle, I can get that together for you, and if harmony is necessary, I can dub and make that happen too. I’m very dependable and capable of putting together whatever ensemble, aria, art song, or one-man show, your heart desires. I’m one of those, that you will say, is worth the money.
I’m Obi Okechukwu and I’d like to finish my studies here and be a Baritone Opera Singer. I plan to finish with an Undergraduate degree in Music Education, then to go on the Graduate School and finish with degrees in Performance and Choral Conducting. I know that it’s a stretch, but I know that it can be done. I can very well see myself conducting a college choir, after my many years of singing in the Opera. I know that it may not start as a high paying job, but I know that I’ll enjoy doing it. I’ll still plan on keeping my church jobs as well. I am very involved in my Catholic church, and I intend on find a church at which I can build their music ministry up and make it known in the community. I know that I can always look to the Lord for assistance, since He’s gotten this far, I know that he’s not finished with me.
I value my family, they are the ones that brought me up and taught me right from wrong. They explained to me that if I wanted to do well, then I was going to have to work. I wouldn’t consider my parents overly strict, but I do know that they could never settle for a B or C in class. When my mom and dad were in school, they explained that they’re parents could not be of any assistance since my dad’s mom had passed, and his dad was very sick. My mom’s dad passed when she was really young and so her mom had to support the family as best as she could. I feel fortunate to have them in my life since I know they didn’t really have that advantage.
I value my talents bestowed on me, I feel that they’re gifts from God and so I respect them and use them. I have such an amount of courage that I am rarely afraid to step out of my shell and try something new or make a new friend. I like how my family supports me in what I do. I was afraid that since my parents are from Nigeria, they would have strict beliefs form their culture and everything. I was afraid they would expect me to be a doctor or a lawyer, but they support my decision to take a musical path, though I may take a business path as well.
Asking questions to get help is a very useful thing. It will dismiss any misunderstandings, and avoid any mistakes being made. If you understand something you will remember it as well. If you remember it you can repeat it each and develop and clearer understanding. When I’ve played piano for a test, I can easily recall it later on and I feel that I would really get and understand it if I was success. I method of work usually helps if I’m tentative on completing my task.
