JJabbar was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers where he averaged 26.2 ppg, 13.3 rpg, .579 field-goal percentage, and 261 blocks. During his first two or three years putting up these numbers still couldn't get over the hump until Earvin Johnson was drafted and with Jabbar on his side led the Lakers to a dynasty period for the next five years. Kareem also patented the famous sky-hook. Kareem retired at the end of the 1988-89 season and that was considered the end of an era.

After Jabbar's retirement he went on to star in movies such as Airplane.On February 18, 2000 he was named assistant coach of    the Los Angeles Clippers. And he also moved on to coach a semi-pro basketball team the Oklahoma Storm as head coach. He also appears in commercials and public service announcements and wherever he goes people know who he is and still known world wide.
