On a Professional Level:
I have been employed for the Department of Biological Sciences, here at SMU, for the past 11 years. My current job consists of general secretarial duties, including typing, arts & graphs, some accounting, and supervision duties. I also serve as the departmental receptionist, back-up technical typist, and as a consultant in the purchase of software/hardware programs which are beneficial to completing tasks in the most efficient manner possible. I am computer literate on both IBM & MAC PC's. I utilize software programs such as Microsoft Office, Aldus Superpaint, Excel, Filemaker, and Photoshop to name a few.
I am a self-starter, versatile, well organized, dedicated to getting the job done, and am able to work individually or under supervision. I am also a Notary Public for the State of Texas. My previous work experiences include working as Program Secretary (3 years) and Office Administrator (6+ years). These positions included duties such as data entry, word processing, cash receipts, balancing accounts, deposits, bank reconciliation's, weekly audits, inventory, and paying bills.
I am a single parent (10 years running), and although it has it challenges I feel that I am truly blessed for I have three wonderful sons. I am interested in Psychology, and have throughly enjoyed the few classes I've taken in this field. I feel that they have helped to relate to others more effectively. I enjoy reading, walking, baseball games, and spending quality time with my children. However, those of you who are parents know that time spent alone is a blessing in itself . I also enjoy gardening, but don't seem to have much of a green thumb; as a matter of fact, I have been known to kill Cacti. I enjoy traveling whenever circumstances permit. I have visited several cities in Texas, as well as Oklahoma, New Mexico, and parts of Old Mexico (including Acapulco Laredo, and Mexico City). However, I am hopeful that someday I will be able visit New York, California, Las Vegas, and Hawaii to name a few.
I am a native of Dallas, and am truly a die-hard Cowboys fan (for which
I get teased a lot) being that they haven't been doing very well lately.
