Vegetarians Taking Action (VTA) was founded in Fall 2010 with the
primary mission to promote a vegetarian/vegan lifestyle as a dietary
refutation to the environmental, animal, and health consequences
surrounding animal agriculture. VTA strives to make the transition
to a vegetarian/vegan diet accessible, by providing knowledge,
resources, and most importantly the support provided by a community
of like-minded individuals. We hope to discredit common
misunderstandings about vegetarianism, such as the belief that
vegetarians are unhealthy and weak, can only eat side dishes, and
are all eccentric hippies. Members meet twice a month to discuss
upcoming events and current meat-related issues. Throughout each
month, we host a variety of social outings, such as group dinners to
local restaurants, movie nights, and potluck dinners. Members
“take action” by distributing relevant literature, handing out vegan
food samples, and simply being an example of a vegetarian/vegan on
campus. We believe that the best way to make a difference and raise
awareness is by friendly and positive activism.
