KPNI Station and Website Information

KPNI - SMU Radio

KPNI, the student-run radio station serving the SMU campus, has come a long way since students first broadcast behind the Natatorium in 1947. Its mission has remained consistent--to operate superior responsive student media in a learning environment dedicated to excellence and student freedom of expression.

From its home in the Belo Digital Newsroom of the Division of Journalism, KPNI provides a mix of music, talk and news shows 24 hours a day. Produced by student and faculty volunteer DJs, KPNI can be heard on 98.3 FM and 640 AM in the residence halls, on SMU TV, and online at kpni.smu.edu.

Select pre-recorded programs appear as part of SMU's local television programming on cable channel 7 in the Park Cities. Here the station finds another media outlet to reach potential listeners.

In an attempt to even better serve those listeners off campus, the station has digitally streaming Web radio, which means anyone with a connection the Internet can now listen online. Armed with the possibility to reach listeners around the world, the station reminds students that KPNI serves not only as their No. 1 source for the latest music, commentary, and up-to-date information, but also as their creative outlet to the world.
