My Work Habits

I didn’t study much in high school. I naturally knew enough to not have to work too hard to get decent grades. Moving to college has been rough on my routine so far, and I’m try to settle in and establish a routine that works with my schedule. I’ve found a few people in my classes that I work well with. I have my eating schedule down, but my workout and sleep schedule is still suffering. And somewhere in there I have to make time for homework and studying. The first reading explains many solutions for forming successful study habits, and I feel that I subconsciously enforce them in my daily life. Topics like studying more than one subject at a time, exercising, and not working in the same spot are very familiar to me. I know that studying wasn’t a huge deal to me in high school, but I am starting to understand its importance in my college studies. The second article about the marshmallow experiment was very interesting. I feel it applies more toward the performing arts students, because they have to practice and persevere to accomplish a greater goal as performers. As far as my work habits, I get my best work done when I’m crunched for time at the last minute, but I’m starting to get better and devote more time over many days to produce better work.

Jack

Hello

Hello everybody. My name is John Politz but I usually go by “Jack”. I’m at SMU double majoring in Computer Science and Film and Media Arts.  I’ve always been pretty good with computers and electronics, so naturally I’m destined to pursue a career in Computer Science. I started a business in the sixth grade converting video tapes to DVD. Along the way, sometime in middle school, I started making slideshows and editing video. Sophomore year in high school I was finally able to enroll in Filmmaking. I took three years of film in high school which allowed me to use school time to improve my film skills and create 8 original films. I’ve found that I like to work the camera more than direct actors. I like color correcting and sound editing more than video editing. With a background in film and a career in Computer Science, I can help create and improve applications for media production. I’m interested to see how SMU develops my understanding of arts as well as engineering.
