The IEEE at SMUIEEE is the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Founded in 1884, IEEE is a worldwide technical professional society devoted to advancing the theory and application of electrical engineering, electronics and computing. The IEEE serves 320,000 electrical engineers, scientists and other professionals in approximately 150 countries. We are the world's largest technical professional society. The Institute's purposes are most succinctly expressed in our mission statement: The Institute of Electrical And Electronics Engineers promotes the development of electro-technology and allied sciences, the application of those technologies for the benefit of humanity, the advancement of the profession, and the well-being of its members.
