Spring 2008 - Recruitment

Important information that recruits need to know:

  • Be back on campus (not flying in to the airport at 12 noon) by no later than 12 noon on Monday, January 7th. This will allow for most weather-related delays.
  • Attire for most of the events is business casual.  T-shirts will be provided for wear during the Into the Streets service project.  Those that purchased optional shirts will have the opportunity to wear them on Wednesday evening.
  • Events will occur between 9:30am and 10pm on January 9th-11th.  Please make sure that your schedule is available accordingly.  A more detailed schedule will be provided at the first session.
  • Missing any round or event may result in you being dropped from recruitment and ineligible to join a chapter for the spring 2008 semester. IFC must be notified in advance if you will be absent.
  • Any report of alcohol use by you at any point between arriving back to campus to the end of the recruitment process may result in removal from the recruitment process and ineligibility for the spring 2008 semester.  You will sign an agreement to this affect on the first day of recruitment or not allowed to participate.
  • If you have any questions, please contact VP of Recruitment, Regan Owen, at rowen@smu.edu !

Eligibility for Recruitment

According to the SMU Policies for Community Life, students participating in recruitment must have successfully completed a minimum of 12 hours at a college or university in the previous semester to the recruitment period. They must also have earned at least a 2.25 semester average and a cumulative average of 2.25. Exceptions are rarely granted—we highly encourage students to dedicate the first semester to academic excellence, and to carry that dedication throughout their time at SMU. Students must also not be on disciplinary probation or higher. The Interfraternity Council abides by these standards. Be aware that some chapters may have higher standards.
