IFC Mission Statement

"We, the members of the Greek community at Southern Methodist University believe that in order to foster the positive development of our member fraternities and those of each individual member, we must strive to uphold our fraternal values.

In striving to uphold these ideals and standards, we must embody the qualities of Leadership, community Service, Scholarship, and a Healthy Lifestyle.

As Greek community Leaders, the Interfraternity Council will encourage all members to distinguish themselves among their peers by employing unity, loyalty, honesty, and camaraderie within the fraternal community.

We must also recognize the importance of the unbiased treatment of others, both inside and outside of our individual organization in an attempt to empathize with each other in our daily lives."

The Interfraternity Council, or IFC, is the governing body of the nine fraternity chapters at SMU affiliated with the North-American Interfraternity Conference and the Fraternity Leadership Association (FLA).

IFC is a student-run organization that exists:

  • To promote the interests of the University, which include scholarship, leadership and citizenship.
  • To promote the interests and unity of the Greek organizations represented on campus.
  • To promote the interests of college fraternities in general, which includes the consideration that they are viable and valuable collegiate experiences.
  • To facilitate communication and cooperation between member fraternities and the University administration and faculty.

The Interfraternity Council organizes activities in which its member fraternities participate, such as community service, recruitment events, educational programs, and leadership development.

Some of the highlights of IFC involvement include Fraternity Recruitment, New Member Seminars, All-Greek Picnic, attending the Mid-American Greek Council Association Conference, Mustang Marathon, opportunities to attend national leadership development conferences like the Undergraduate Interfraternity Institute and Leadershape, and hosting the Special Olympics Texas Volleyball Tournament for Dallas.

The SMU Interfraternity Council is a member of the Mid-American Greek Council Association (MGCA).
