As a hopeful professional dancer, there are many skills that go hand in hand with entrepreneurship, because my body or facility as a dancer is my own business. Through my extensive training, I feel as though I’ve acquired many helpful and necessary skills such as creativity and discipline. I’m a very hard worker and am very driven by my passion, which is needed in the professional world of the arts. Also, I find myself very adaptable as well. I’m able to quickly change styles and easily change my ways of thinking for different choreographers. A skill that will come in handy in my professional work, and has already benefited me throughout most my life.
However, I am aware in the areas that I lack in. For instance, I’m not the biggest risk taker, which is definitely needed as a dancer. I have to be willing to put myself out there and not be afraid. Be able to take chances. I’m hoping my work here in college will help me gain more of this skill. Perhaps studying somewhere abroad will be able to expand my horizons, allowing me to be more adventurous and take bigger risks.
Mi imaginative skills could be honed in on more as well. Most people would think that as a dancer, I am very imaginative and creative. I am in some respect, however, I feel as though I could develop this skill set more. I’m hoping my exposure to a lot of different styles of dance and just various academic classes in general will aid my ability to become more imaginative and think outside the box.
In general, I know I have a good foundation for my skill sets, but I know that there are some things I personally need to work on. And what better time to work on these skills than right now?
