About Us

History

The East Asian Student Association (EASA) at SMU was formed in 1989 by a small group of Asian students who were compelled by the desire to develop friendship and unity among the Asian students on campus. As a student organization, EASA has grown into an important and necessary venue for students, both Asian and non-Asian, to understand, appreciate, and enjoy the rich diversity of the Asian culture. Since its inception, EASA has continued to grow in scope, visibility and membership. Today, EASA is a significant presence on campus promoting and celebrating Asian cultures and leadership through student programming and activities. And as we continue to develop our role at SMU, we hope to encourage you to share in our special friendship to understand, appreciate and share our heritage and culture.

Purpose

The East Asian Student Association is dedicated to unifying East Asian students and those who are interested in the East Asian culture on campus through cultural, social, service and leadership activities. We strive to promote awareness and appreciation of Asian cultures and stimulate interaction among East Asian students, the SMU community and the metroplex.
