Chapter Meeting Minutes 10-6-98

With the 3 sharp taps of Kristi's umbrella, we began. (she still claims
she lost the gavel).

Katie reported on this past weekend's project at the Dallas Lighthouse
for the Blind. Most people were sighted-guides. Unfortunately there was
not all that much for them to do other than that. However, it was still fun!
They got to check out the classic cars, which was cool.

This Saturday's service project is at the Arc of Dallas. Many of you might
remember this project from past semesters. This time we are going to bowl
against the mentally handicapped to prepare them for their upcoming
competition. It is at Don Carter's. Meet on the steps of Hughes-Trigg at
9:10 a.m.

Reminder that Marjorie, our wonderful advisor, needs people to pretend
that they have certain mental illnesses (which shouldn't be hard for some
of us) on anytime Thursday's in October from 2-5 p.m. E-mail Marjorie if
you are interested at mhatch@mail.smu.edu.

Next week Katie will give a report on who has become active.

Jay informed us of the Pledge Elections Results:

President - Rex
Vice President - Ramona
Secretary - Laura

The pledges gave a wonderful presentation on Friendship.
Friendship requires: respect, honesty, dependability
Brotherhood - spirit of friendship
-overlook differences
-emphasize similarities
-join together in service
-keep an open mind

Friendship is a challenge.
Goal: strengthen the chapter through friendship

Surest way to have a friend is to be a friend!

Gina introduced Wendy's dad, Mr. Jeffus, who told us about his pledge
semester. When he pledged in 1966, his chapter was completely male. They
started a little sister sorority associated with APO later and they
eventually merged together. Mr. Jeffus also told us about what a fun
event Ugly Man on Campus is and gave countless examples as to how what he
has learned through APO has helped him later in life.

Aren introduced us to Jon Byrd, potential scouting advisor.
He was the spring '68 President of the Beta Delta chapter of
TAMU-Commerce (formerly East Texas State University) and is the current
Senior District Executive for the North Trail district of the Circle 10
council.

Gina gave the update on the Blue and Gold team points.
This week the Blue team had 425 points and the Gold team had 450 points.
The total is now Blue 2325 and Gold 2325.
Blue:
Jay was the high active with 114 points.
Sam was the high active with 59 points.
(Come on guys these boys need some competition!)

Gold:
Natalie high active with 89 points.
Renee high active with 95 points.

**Pledges- you are assigned to the team that your Big is on. So, if you
don't know, ask your Big!**

Nationals is in approx. 70 days!
Gina's tidbit this week was the Minneapolis as formed on money generated
by the Mississippi's hundreds of flour and saw mills.

Jen Anderson announced that this is your last chance to join her blood
drive committee. Also...
BUY T-SHIRTS!!!!!!!!!!!! NOW!!!

Jen Nash has account info available. The total on all accounts is now
$1728.01.**No committee meeting this week due to Jen's obviously severely
stressful final.
FUNDRAISER SUNDAY!!
meet at 5:45 a.m. (that's right, a.m.) at the SMUSH
We are going to the Plano - Chase Oaks Golf Club to help out with their
tournament which should be over by about 1 p.m. We really need people on
this one because the more people, the more money we will get.
If we have 5 people we will get $200. More people, more money.
Contact Jen if you're interested ASAP!
This is a really great opportunity to raise money for our chapter!

Tuesday, November 3rd dues are due!

That hardworking, yet shy (not if you really know me), secretary of ours
would like all of you to double check that last roster to be sure all
info is correct. Jay and I will be working on the pledge roster as well
as doing a final update on the other one. This is your last chance!

Kristi reminded us that October 17th is the leadership conference at TCU.
**NO ACTIVE MEETING NEXT WEEK due to Fall Break!**
Next meeting we will vote on advisors!

Two fellowship events this week! The first one will be a study break on
Wednesday at 7 p.m., meet at the Flagpole. The second one will be on
Thursday at 7 p.m. Meet on the steps of Hughes-Trigg to go shopping for
Halloween costumes! This year we will continue the tradition of
trick-or-treating for canned goods starting at Natalie's house.

Next week check your e-mail for info on fellowship events since there
will not be a meeting.

Sam and Natalie need help! We all knew that but they need help with
t-shirt designs! Get your ideas to them ASAP, so far they have 0
suggestions. You don't have to be an artist. Stick figures are perfectly
acceptable. Drop your ideas in the APO Box!
We will be voting on this next meeting!

Andrea announced that SMU RIDES will not run this weekend due to Fall Break.
Also, having trouble w/some organizations backing out. Call us, we answer!

Michelle says WORK on the AO History Project! There is a folder in the
volunteer office that tells you exactly what to do.

Renee said thanks to all who helped worked the table for the Hurricane
Relief. Also, she reminded us that she needs help with her photography
project.

Jen Nash announced that Shannon held her Alumni Association Meeting last
Thursday which went very well. Awesome job Shannon!

That was it. Everyone have a great Fall Break! See you all soon and at
meeting in two weeks!
In L, F, & S,
